Škoda Auto is entering the 130th year of its rich history. Opening of an extensive exhibition at the Škoda Museum brings the company’s major milestones and many fascinating stories to life. The exhibition features dozens of cars, a selection of the company’s first motorcycles and bicycles, and an interactive map charting the development of the main plant. It also highlights 125 years of engine development and production in Mladá Boleslav. A special highlight awaits visitors on Friday 16 May 2025 during Mladá Boleslav Museum Night.

A journey through time
For 130 years, Škoda is continuously developing and reinventing itself with a strong customer focus. Mladá Boleslav has been producing means of personal transport since 1895, when Laurin & Klement first began operations. The new exhibition at the Škoda Museum captures the spirit of courage, creativity and skill shown by generations of makers of high-quality bicycles, motorcycles and pioneering automobiles, exported to all inhabited continents. Set in authentic factory spaces dating from before the First World War, the exhibition traces key milestones, stages of progress, landmark models and motorsport successes. It also illustrates the Czech carmaker’s ability to overcome challenging political and economic conditions, to weather both local setbacks and global crises – and to emerge stronger.

Informative text and image panels frame a host of striking vehicles exhibits, ranging from the first Slavia bicycle and the L&K B motorcycle to a variety of vehicles, culminating in the latest all-electric Škoda Elroq. A four-tier display shelf presents five vehicles per level, tracing the era of Laurin & Klement cars, Škoda’s expansion in the 1930s and the post-war years. It also reflects the brand’s integration into the Volkswagen Group, enabling significant investments, technology transfer, and access to global markets – transforming Škoda from a regional market leader into a competitive global automaker. A dedicated section celebrates the remarkable 125-year tradition of engine development and production in Mladá Boleslav, while an interactive map charts the growth of the local plant between 1895 and 2025. Other manufacturing and assembly sites are also highlighted. Among the exhibits are the trophies created by Škoda Auto’s designers for the Tour de France winners and the Enyaq used by the director of the world-famous cycling race. A children’s corner will inspire future designers and engineers, while the whole family can enjoy the photo point with the company’s legendary founder Václav Klement and racing pioneer Václav Vondřich, nicknamed the ‘travelling blacksmith’. The Škoda 130th anniversary exhibition will be open to the public until 11 January 2026.

Debut after renovation: L&K Si (1918)
It is not only the temporary exhibitions and rich cultural programme that encourage visitors to return to the Škoda Museum, but also the frequent updates to the permanent collection. Following an extensive renovation, visitors can now see a newly restored representative of the most popular Laurin & Klement model series: the open-top L&K Si from 1918. This particular vehicle was purchased during the First Republic era by August G. Tham, an established badge manufacturer from Jablonec nad Nisou.

Mladá Boleslav Museum Night
The traditional Mladá Boleslav Museum Night is always a popular event, and this year it will be dedicated to celebrating 130 years of Škoda Auto. It will take place on Friday 16 May 2025 from 18:00 to 23:00, with free entry for all. Visitors can look forward to guided tours of the Škoda Museum (at 18:30 and 21:00) and the depository (at 19:00 and 21:30). Night-time tours of the production halls are also available for visitors aged 10 and over.

The five millionth Škoda Fabia recently rolled off the production line in Mladá Boleslav. Since 1999, this affordable entry-level model – alongside the Octavia – has marked a key milestone in the modern history of the Škoda brand. The first-generation Fabia was built on a completely new Volkswagen Group platform and stood out as one of the most spacious cars in its class, combining practicality, great value for money and a host of Simply Clever features. This winning formula made the Fabia a success with both long-standing and new customers in Europe and beyond. Today’s fourth generation features modern, fuel-efficient combustion engines and advanced safety systems. Given its lasting popularity and importance to the brand, production of the current Fabia will continue beyond 2030.

“Reaching the milestone of five million Škoda Fabia vehicles is truly an exceptional achievement – both for our production team and for the company as a whole. First introduced in 1999 as the second entirely new model developed under the umbrella of the Volkswagen Group, the Fabia quickly became a symbol of the brand and a cornerstone of our line-up. As Škoda’s entry-level model, it remains to this day synonymous with high-quality cars ‘Made in the Czech Republic’. Given the continued success of the current fourth generation – a practical, efficient vehicle packed with modern technology and a wide range of safety features – we will continue producing the Fabia beyond 2030.”

Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics

Škoda Fabia: One of the brand’s most popular models
The Škoda Fabia has long ranked among the brand’s best-selling models. In 2024, it was Škoda’s third most popular vehicle, with 117,100 units delivered worldwide. The first generation was unveiled at the 58th Frankfurt Motor Show in 1999 as the successor to the much-loved Felicia. Built on an entirely new platform, it was offered with a wide variety of engines, transmissions and body styles. Over the years, the Fabia has played a key role in boosting the popularity of the Škoda brand across European markets. Its name has also become firmly rooted in motorsport history – including the most recent generations. The Fabia Rally2, Fabia Rally2 evo and the current Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 are among the most successful rally cars of all time in their respective categories.

Four generations of affordable entry-level mobility
The first-generation Škoda Fabia (1999–2008) made its debut as a five-door hatchback, measuring 3,960 mm in length. Less than a year later, the estate version was introduced, followed by a saloon in 2001. Its distinctive styling was the work of a design team led by then Chief Designer Dirk van Braeckel. Built on the advanced PQ24 platform for small cars, the first Fabia offered a wide range of powertrains. In March 2003, a sporty RS version was launched, featuring a 1.9 TDI turbo-diesel (96 kW) that combined brisk performance with low fuel consumption.

The second-generation Škoda Fabia (2007–2014) premiered at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007. Based on the same platform as its predecessor, it was 22 mm longer and 47 mm taller. A practical estate version followed six months later. In 2009, the line-up was expanded to include the Scout variant with off-road design features and an RS model with a 1.4 TSI turbocharged petrol engine producing 132 kW. This generation also introduced the popular Monte Carlo edition.

The third-generation Škoda Fabia (2014–2022) was unveiled in October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show. Built on the modern PQ26 platform, it featured new proportions that gave it a more dynamic presence – 90 mm wider and 30 mm lower than its predecessor. Safety and comfort were also significantly improved: the Fabia was now available with Front Assist, adaptive cruise control and driver fatigue detection. A 2018 facelift added further upgrades, including Full LED headlights and blind-spot monitoring.

The fourth-generation Škoda Fabia (2021–present) arrived in spring 2021 as a five-door hatchback based on the MQB A0 platform. The design was developed by the Škoda Design team led by Oliver Stefani. This generation exceeded 4.1 metres in length, and the boot capacity grew by 50 litres to a generous 380 litres. It can be equipped with the latest features and systems, such as automatic parking and Travel Assist 2.0, which includes adaptive cruise control, predictive pedestrian and cyclist protection, adaptive lane guidance and traffic sign recognition.

Škoda has become the first European automotive brand to offer an Amazon car showroom that seamlessly integrates real-time new car stock availability where customers are. Through this new venture with Amazon, UK customers can browse the full Škoda range, check local availability, request a test drive, and explore finance options - all before visiting a chosen Škoda retailer to make a purchase and enjoying a ‘click to drive’ experience.

The innovative showroom highlights Škoda’s commitment to making it simpler and more convenient for customers to find a new car. By joining forces with Amazon, Škoda is enhancing the browsing experience, providing customers with all the information they need in a familiar online environment before making their decision.

The online Škoda showroom showcases the brand’s complete model range, from the compact Fabia supermini, to the multi award-winning Kodiaq family SUV, as well as Škoda’s fully electric models, including the new Elroq and Enyaq.

According to a recent national survey of 2,000 UK adults, commissioned by Škoda UK, 47% of potential customers value being able to research from home when buying a new car.

However, the Škoda survey highlights the ongoing importance of physical interaction before purchasing a car. While 82% of respondents prefer some form of in-person engagement, 78% consider a test drive as essential. Expert knowledge (47%), product demonstrations (36%), and face-to-face interaction were also cited as key factors influencing their decision.

The survey reveals British consumers’ shopping habits. With 77% of respondents spending up to two hours a day browsing online, the appeal of digital convenience is clear: 59% cited ease and simplicity as their main reason for shopping this way. This highlights a key insight in the context of car buying - customers crave convenience, but also the added reassurance of a physical car dealership experience.

This blend of digital exploration and real-world reassurance is exactly what Škoda’s new Amazon showroom aims to deliver.

Škoda Auto presents the Elroq Respectline, a concept with distinctive exterior and interior design that was created to highlight Škoda’s core values such as mutual respect, diversity and inclusion. Making its premiere during European Diversity Month, the car also aims to draw attention to the importance of protecting human rights and equitable and fair treatment of everyone. The main motif in the form of a stylised “háček” sign found in the Czech letter “Š” is a tribute to the origins and rich historical heritage of Škoda Auto, which is commemorating its 130th anniversary this year. The Škoda Elroq Respectline was created collaboratively by Škoda Auto employees from across the company. It will celebrate its first public appearance at the Best Cars 2025 awards event by German auto motor und sport magazine in Hamburg, on 9 May, followed by its presence at a company music festival in Mladá Boleslav on 10 May. With the Elroq Respectline, Škoda is also celebrating the huge success of more than 55,000 Elroq orders through the end of April.

“Diversity, equity, inclusion, and mutual understanding are cornerstones of Škoda’s corporate culture. With the new Elroq Respectline, we are introducing a Škoda brand ambassador that embodies these values. Our goal at Škoda Auto is to be a role model in caring for our employees and fostering a safe, open, and fair workplace for all. For many years, we have been building our corporate culture on these principles – in close cooperation with our social partner KOVO Union, Škoda Auto employee groups, and many inspiring organizations and experts. We are proud of our commitment to promoting human rights and mutual respect, and we believe the Elroq Respectline will help us carry these values even further.”

Maren Gräf, Škoda Auto Board Member for People & Culture

Škoda Elroq Respectline: a tribute to diversity and historical heritage
The exterior design of the Elroq Respectline is characterised by its striking colour scheme and the “háček” as the main visual motif. The emblem, taken from the new Škoda logo, accompanies the exterior and interior design in a playful way as an imaginative reminder of the Czech letter “Š”. The car manufacturer is proud of its Czech origins and the “háček” is a reminder of its legacy dating back to 1895.

The Tech-Deck grille of the Elroq Respectline is equipped with an animated LED rainbow lighting. The rainbow is generally recognized as a symbol of the LGBT+ community and a reminder of society’s diversity and the importance of each individual. The powerfully designed rainbow exterior and the bold, colourful interior design highlight the strength of diversity and the positive energy that different perspectives and personalities can create when united in mutual respect. The interior of this electric vehicle emphasizes individuality while also underscoring a strong commitment to sustainability.

Using recycled materials from the Elroq model, combined with progressive rainbow embroidery on the seats, distinctive embossing details, and cheerful, colorful décor elements, the Respectline is a wonderful example of how joyful diversity can be. Exceptional craftsmanship, confident design, and a deep-rooted guiding principle invite viewers to be swept away by the many colours of diversity.

Public premieres this week, followed by Prague Pride and Tour de France later this year
The new Elroq Respectline follows on from the Enyaq Respectline, which has appeared in a number of places in the past to promote Škoda’s core values such as mutual respect, diversity and inclusion. The Elroq Respectline will celebrate its public premiere at two events at the end of the week: first on Friday 9 May at the Best Cars 2025 awards by auto motor und sport magazine in Hamburg, Germany, followed by its presence at a company music festival in Mladá Boleslav on 10 May. The Škoda Elroq Respectline will also be exhibited throughout the summer, for example, at the Metronome Prague music festival, at the Prague Pride festival, at the Open Air concert of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and during the Tour de France.

Škoda Auto x Botas Respectline Edition
Škoda Auto and Czech shoemaker Botas joined forces merging the heritage of both manufacturers through iconic sneakers that reflect Škoda’s Modern Solid design language and the Elroq Respectline. The sneaker incorporates rainbow embroidery on the sides of the shoes, which is also included in the interior of the new Respectline model. This collaboration amplifies the company’s stance on inclusion and diversity, with the shoes set to be sold at the Botas e-shop in the upcoming weeks.

Škoda Auto’s engagement during European Diversity Month
For the fifth year in a row, Škoda Auto is commemorating European Diversity Month. Apart from the introduction of the Elroq Respectline, Škoda Auto is setting up a number of activities throughout May, such as lectures and workshops for employees.

Škoda Auto has anchored its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the company’s Next Level Škoda Strategy and addresses this in more detail in its Diversity Strategy 2030. The car manufacturer also regularly publishes its Annual Sustainability Report and Diversity Report, which will follow later this month.

Škoda Auto now uses sustainable HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fuel as the initial fill for newly manufactured diesel models produced at its Czech factories and for refuelling its logistics fleet. This synthetic diesel is produced from waste materials and differs from biodiesel, which is derived from agricultural crops. HVO fuel is made from used fats and oils through a chemical hydrogenation process and therefore does not require any farmland, making it even more sustainable. The advanced-generation biofuel is supplied by the Czech state-owned company ČEPRO. This initiative is part of the joint decarbonisation measures being implemented across the company and is designed to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Škoda Auto’s corporate activities. In production and logistics, the Czech carmaker aims to achieve carbon-neutral operation at all its plants in the Czech Republic and India by the end of the decade.

“HVO fuel offers up to 90% lower net carbon emissions compared to fossil diesel. As the first Volkswagen Group brand to adopt this innovative solution, we are utilizing HVO not only in our passenger vehicles but also for refuelling trucks that manage internal logistics at our Czech plants. From August to December 2024, these internal vehicles consumed approximately 46,000 litres of HVO fuel – corresponding to an annual saving of around 300 tonnes of CO₂. This initiative marks a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and achieving CO₂-neutral production at our manufacturing sites.”

Karsten Schnake, Škoda Auto Board Member for Procurement and Sustainability Representative of the Board

HVO: A sustainable fuel with a host of benefits
HVO fuel is an advanced biofuel classified as a synthetic diesel substitute. It is produced through a hydrogenation process, primarily using waste oils, including used cooking oil and plant- and animal-based fats. Unlike biodiesel, HVO fuel does not rely on agricultural crops for its production.

HVO fuel is clear in appearance, practically odourless and has a significantly higher cetane number than fossil diesel (70 compared to 51). This improves combustion efficiency and helps lower pollutant emissions, particularly particulate matter. HVO fuel is also free from sulphur, aromatic hydrocarbons, and high-boiling-point hydrocarbons. As a result, it reduces emissions of harmful substances and leads to less frequent regeneration cycles of diesel particulate filters (DPF). In older diesel engines, HVO fuel may also contribute to quieter and smoother running. The fuel can be freely blended with conventional diesel.

Škoda vehicles approved for HVO fuel
All Škoda diesel models from model year 2022 onwards (produced from calendar week 25 of 2021) are approved to use HVO fuel. HVO-approved vehicles are marked with an XTL symbol on the fuel filler cap, while older models can have their compatibility confirmed by authorised Škoda dealers. HVO fuel and HVO-diesel blends are now widely available across European markets.

Škoda Auto’s path to decarbonisation
Škoda Auto has been working to reduce its environmental footprint and remains committed to achieving carbon neutrality across all production sites in the Czech Republic and India by 2030, with its Vrchlabí plant having already reached carbon neutrality in 2020. A key milestone is the conversion of the heating plant in Mladá Boleslav, carried out in partnership with ŠKO-ENERGO. Once the plant switches fully to biomass, it will reduce net CO₂ emissions by up to 290,000 tonnes per year.
